I live in Newfoundland Canada, so I dunno how difficult this task of finding a 49 Merc would be, but I would rather spend forever looking for the car I want than settle for something I didn't want. So any tips on finding what i'm looking for or Canadian Websites, or any help at all, please let me know. Thanks.
If you cannot ever find one then you can have a fiberglass body built for you. What I do is look on www.collectorcartraderonline.com and a bunch of other sites on www.dogpile.com and search in there for cars for sale in your area. Go drive around for a day going down places even close to you, I have lived here where I am now for 4 years and recently wen't down roads about 15 minutes from me and found old cars that I never saw before and didn't think I would find... You would be surprised what you can find. Other thing is tell a lot of people what your looking for and ask them to keep their eye out for you. Way I found my car was I was at church talking to my guitarists dad about how I was looking for a hot rod and he knew a guy and I bought it and I never even knew my friends dad was into hot rods and now we talk about them all the time and go cruising in his hot rods.

Thanks for the tips man, at first I thought I was going to get ragged on for wanting the 49 Merc...but thanks, I 'll keep everything in mind, and maybe somebody in my church can help me too lol, I play guitar and Euphonium ha maybe I'll be surprised as well.
'49-'50 Merc's are 1 of the most desirable cars for hotrodding, why would we rag on ya?
Probably just for that reason and because a ton of other people have em. But yeah noone here rags on people for things like that. I love those cars and used to always wan't one when I was younger and still would like to have one. I am surprised I got something that is kind of close to one (well in a way it has that led sled style, etc to it but would need a big chop top and all to make it that style everyone likes. :)

How far are you willing to go out and look or buy one? Trying to stay just in your area? Is there even a lot of old hot rods and things like that in Canada? My dad used to live in Newfoundland and all those places around there but never mentioned seeing hot rods or nothing because he was just a teenager when my grandfather was stationed there either before or after he went to Korean war.
A week or so ago, I saw a 1950 Merc 4dr go on Ebay, I think it was being sold in Windsor, ither that or detroit.
For now I think it would be great to find something near or around my area, or even on the island for that matter. Possibly anywhere in Canada, but of course the closer to home the better. from what I've seen there really isn't that many Hot Rods in Canada, I see people around with old Classics every now and then, and every summer there are several Car Shows that I try and get to. But its really not that big of a scene from what I've seen. My friends neighboor has 2 old Fargos restored and is currently working on a 54 Chevy I think??. But ya I think I would be more willing to look further away as I finish my schooling and what not. I really hope I am not too young to delve into the love of Hot Rods.:confused:

I know a guy here in Mission B.C. who's got a 1950 Merc, already chopped and all, with a mustangII front clip. he's asking $10,500 obo.

Hey "Thunderbucket", I would say I am definetly "interested" but sadly I just don't have the funds. Just to know the possibilities of finding one in Canada is great though. I would say I am going to end up having to wait until I am done my schooling and I get to making money. But thanks for the help. I'm never going to forget about the Merc. Its always going to be a goal of mine.
I was talking to this really old guy that I see all the time with tons of old originally restored cars and I was telling him how I am trying to find a truck or car for real cheap that is running that I don't need a lot of work on and he said he has 50 Mercury and two 46 Chevy trucks and said 800 for the trucks for both but not sure about the Merc because I didn't ask and didn't realize that he said a 50 Mercury since most of the ones I see around here are not as old. Later that night I was like woah he said 50 Merc and those used to be my favorite kind of car when I was about 5 years younger. I am supposed to go down and look at them all next week to see how good of shape they are in. I don't think you would come this far for something like that though would you?
sounds like it would be quite fun, but its impossible. I am only home now for the weekends, and then back to college on monday. Sad times. Just the fact that I am begining to hear from you all that there "are" mercs in Canada is still enough to keep me motivated towards owning one some time in my life. Hopefully next year I can begin thinking more seriuosly about it.
Yeah well don't feel bad, it takes time. I looked for a hot rod for 2 years to buy one and I looked at TONS of cars and didn't find the right one for a really long time.
You can own a merc', a '49 'merc for less than 20 bucks, Revelle makes a plastic model kit of a '49 Merc for around 13.00, if you cannot find it at your local hobby store or other such stores that sell plastic models, they are available on the internet on many, hobbiest supply websites.:) :LOL:Quote:
