oil in fuel line????

I have had my engine sitting for about 1 1/2 weeks now since I last ran it. I pull fuel from a can still, and when I'm done running it I let the line drain down into the can and then just coil up the line.
Well, yesterday I looked at my line and fuel had collected in the glass filter below the pump. The fuel was brownish colored so I touched it and rubbed it between my fingers and it was oily.

How did this oil get in my fuel??
The only thing I can think of is the fuel pump. Should I just replace that piece of junk before it cruds up my new carb?

you didnt give much info. but there is no way motor oil is getting into the fuel pump from the motor. for that to happen the diaphragm in the pump would have to be bad and then the pump wouldnt pump. if there was oil in the gas it should be smoking. :whacked:

I have seen many 350s that had a leaking diaphragm, that leaked enuff to fill up the crankcase with gas and still run long enuff to lock up the bearings. I would at least double check the pump.

what other info is applicable?

after the engine sits the excess fuel drains back down, since the filter is a glass one I can see it, I noticed it was very dark for gasoline and put some between my fingers.
Oil city.

the line just goes from the pump to a regulator to the carb. It's either coming from the carb or the fuel pump.
I don't see how it could be originating at the carb.
Unless it is not oil and something else?

It's coming from the block side of the fuel pump through the fuel pump body,,,,small crack or hole,and then onto the diaphram,,,and probably a crack or hole in it too!!
,,swap it out and be happy.

it will be in the trash shortly.

ive seen gas in oil also, but thats not what he said. he said oil was getting into his gas at the pump. didnt happen :eek:

The gas in the can evaporated. The crud is the non-volatile crap that is in gas these days. That's why your lawn mowers and minibikes don't run in the spring unless you run them out of gas before putting them away.
