New guy needs Gen V 454 help.....
Hello all! I'm new to this forum as well as the big block world. Here is my problem; I got a 454 bbc out of a running 1994 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4. The motor has 200k:( miles on it so it desperatly needs a rebuild!(but I got it for free so its not that bad:D ) The motor is going into a project truck of mine, a 1981 chevy crewcab longbed 3+3 one ton 4x4 that I have shortend up by 14" so I could put a shortbed on it. I thought it would be cool to have a truck that chevy never made. (But they should have because the 81 crewcab body style with the shortbed on it looks sweet!!!) The truck has a 6" lift, 35" tires, turbo 400, 205 t-case, dana 60 front, and corperate 14 rear both with 4.10 gears. O.k. back to my problem. The Gen V motor is making it very hard to find information on how to pump the thing up to a reliable 450 h.p. I'm looking for some ideas as well as where to get parts to reach my goal. I could use help on the following:
*Are the heads capable of making that much power?
*Where can I find high compression pistons for my 118cc heads? (like 9.5:1)
*One of the comp cams xtrem 4x4 cams a good choice?
*Can I plug off the oil cooler lines in the block without screwing something up?
Man, i feel like an idiot asking all this but I cant find answers anywhere else. So let the Gen V masters speak up:) :) :) . Thanks in advance guys!
