Well this is my first big block so bear with me. It's a 427 tall deck (#3969858) with (#343772) heads. My question is are these heads any good. If so what are the valve sizes and the combustion chamber volume. Any help would be appreciated..

It really depends on what you are going to do with the engine.Quote:

I do know they used that head on the 366 truck engines and I would say they have the small intake ports.
If it is going in a pick-up and will see no more than 4,500 rpm's use the heads.
If you are trying to build a 550 hp engine for a car you better buy some better heads.
Thats what I thaught. I'm looking to do a 535 with it. My buddy has a set of aluminum heads with 320cc intake runners, 119cc combustion chambers, and 2.25 1.88 valves, that I could get in a trade deal. I believe they are Pro Top Line heads.
If this is a street driven car the 320 cc heads might be a little large.Quote:

In a street car I would look at the AFR's 305 cc head or the Brodix BB-2's we have used both of these heads on 496-535 with really good sucess.
Of course you do know the 535 has a 10.20 deck height which means you need to run a MSD billet distributor with the slip collar, you will also need a longer oil pump drive and a tall deck intake manifold.
Also because the heads sit up higher sometimes exhaust becomes an issue.
Gotta agree with Eric, 320cc intake is a bit large unless it's mainly gonna be used at the track. Pro Topline, unless they've cleaned up their act, is at the bottom of my list for heads. They're always cheaper in price....why do you think that is?? Those heads will work, but you'll give up quite a bit on the bottom end.
I'll probably look into the afr heads. It will be more of a street car, besides I really don't think I want to get rid of my 406 small block for a set of heads. I do undersatnd the challenges that go with the tall deck but I think I can handle those.
theres no replacement for displacement aero
If you GET a GOOD deal on those heads get them!
you can run a oval port intake from brodix[HVH2007]KEEP YOUR BOTTOM END TORQUE AND HAVE PLENTY OF HEAD FOR THE TOP END & SAVE SOME CASH!
if you need more top end SQUEEZZZZZZ!
& RUN A 2" 4500-TO-4150 SPACER W/A WELL TUNED 1050+ DOMINATOR.
UMMM,there is only one problem.Quote:

Do you think he might have a little "port alignment problem????
you can look at e-bay 230076396515 they would work ok for low mild rpm
Well its posible!:HMMM: but I doubt it Eric, I ran a set up like that before w/a set of Dart-308's and a Dart oval port intake on a 496"BBC w/a 1050 dominator
& that 2" spacer! I bet i would give that blown540/57 a run for your money w/alittle space;)
I am just a little curious to what intake gasket you would use to make that work.Quote:

there was a time that dart told people to use the O port intake on the rect head with a heavy car .and you would use a rec gasket f1211. i have used rec port intakes on O ports it work how good? lets say it work i think it would be fine it would not hit the wall the head i do not think any one would wast the time to dyno but did hear that the old 396 stock cars did use the rect port for the O ports gm stock alum intake
WELL BIG E;)
I THINK I WOULD USE A 1211. BUT ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE I PUT A COMBO LIKE THAT TOGETHER SINCE MOSTLY IVE JUST BEEN REDOING MY BIGCHIEF's WHEN NEEDED, IM NOT A BIG ENGINE BUILDER GUY LIKE YOU AND PAT,I JUST

Did You Get The Heads? What Parts Do You Have?can You Us A Build Sheet? Are You Close To To A Company Called Squires Turbo Systems.they Would Be Very Helpful W/your Turbo Set Up! That Monte Would Be Awsom To Put That Rat In W/a Couple Of Gt67/72 Hybrid Turbo's, Im Talkin-bout Ur Terminator Grand National:D
I havent got the heads yet. I just have the complete tall deck 427 at the moment. I dont think the monte would last long with the rat (It's a T-Top). I have talked to squires on a few occasions, we discused putting the rear turbo on my 406 for the monte.
If it's a 427 tall deck block, you've already got the foundation for a 572. Why not just kick it up a notch? Go big or go home! :)
