Well, me and my frend and my brother in law were putting the engine together and every thing went smooth untill the #4 cam bearing. The cam came to a dead stop! So, my frend looked at it and started fvcking with it, and it was tighter then a nuns twat on on sunday. The cam got totally stuck in there! The bearing is screwed. Well So I am going to call the shop that installed them tomorrow and see if that can fix it.
sound like to many helpers. you could of drive it in cocky? i only had a ford 300 6 like that. i had to send it out for in line bore and get the cam housing bore open up. ford used one under size cam bearing in the block. came form ford that way .sounds like you mix them up positons? like ch-1 is #1... ch-2 is#2or5... ch-3is#3or4... the oR means they will need them to go in the posted positions
yeah i didint install the Cam Bearings the shop did. i just hope they can fix it
well i check them with a old cam .if they drive the cam bearing in and hammer the hell out of it then they put a burr on it .this can happen. this is no big deal.. if not beat to $hit just clean the bur off with a bearing scrapper
I have seen that cam bore on the block is undersize and have to machine the OD of the bearing down to make it fit properly. So measure the bore and check in the engine bearing book for Bore size. Those Chrysler are bad about having undersize cam bore. I have seen the bore undersize tight as .005 to .010 too small.
this is a chevy bbc:eek: i build my share of bbc chevys only seen one that was on the small side . i just bore the cam bore out were it needs. not the out side shell of the bearings ? but what ever makes you happy . how or why if you do not mind me asking would you go thru all the time to make up a drive mandrill to hold the cam bearing not to spin and trash the finsh were the cam would run in it. then find the center of the bearing with no run out then cut it ? that is how you do it right? i use the ground outer i guess you could do one of that type. but not the rolled butt clench type of cam bearingQuote:

Let the shop do it ,its about that price,just talk to the guys that did it originally and they should atleast cut you a deal on the new ones and let them know the reason is because the cam was really tight and would not fit.
I would also take my cam with me when I picked the block up and try to install it right then and there so they can see for themselves if it does not fit correctly.
Cam bearings are picky about installation /orientation and thats why the tool is 200 bucks,plus they are no fun to deal with way up inside the block.
The cheapest tool is not the one you want for this job.

they can be pickup from many but not for $50.new i have one i like it works fine it has paid for it self many times over .but there some thing i do to the cam bearings and the bores .i just do not slam then in .so less you build alot of engines or machine alot of blocks you may just want to find a shop to do them for you. there is times when you have to work on them in the block if one as a hi spot but if you have never done any of this it better to pay some one that put the in every week for a liven , i have a machine shop and not one block will go out the door with out me checking it . must be alot of 1/2 ass shops out there. this one of the less hard jobs to do ? but over look by some ???

wow 100.00 for cam bearings..is that american money? i really need to look at my pricing..i must be stuck in the sixties..sometimes you do have to kinnda work on em (with a broke ring my favorite) to get it right (dang dodges) but that much for a standard install..WOW

you think is but how would you know? this may sound like a smart A$$ qoute but how do you know ? the bore if small will make the bearing small so is it the bearing or the housing bore of the block. it will need to be check . if a hi spot there is away to fix that .you have dents in the cam bearing where the cam lobes hit them this will stop the cam moving back to the next cam bearing and if you pull up or down hard on the cam trying to get it out you will put hi spots on the cam bearings that is what i seen in the photosQuote:

And pole the oil plugs and coil 1 timing cover bolt hole that the other shop didint do :( so i am all set now :)
tip for the future:
install the cam FIRST. It is a lot easier to reach through the block and give the front of the cam support if the pistons and crank are not in place.
never be in a hurry to do it. move very slow and deliberately. Iffn it don't go, don't force it.
The machine shop is always willing to help. Less willing if you have caused more trouble than they left you.
also: if you would like the mach. shop to install the cam, it would probably be a minimal charge over the bearing installation. never had an issue with it myself, however.
