Help!!! Oil is not going to the rockers while priming engine!!!

I tried priming the engine with the drill for at least 10 min. at high speed and oil is still not coming to ANY of the rockers. Oil pressure at the guage is at 55 PSI. Has a melling HV oil pump. I don't get it. The engine is a 1966 396, I made sure it has the rear grooved cam bearing, and I also had a machine shop make the groove in the rear journal of the camshaft. I had the drill at slow & high speed for a good 15 minutes, took off the valve cover no signs of oil. Then I did at high speed for another 10 minutes with the valve covers off and still no sign of oil.

Any ideas?????

The camshaft is a solid lifter cam by the way.

This happen to a friend The shop forgot the oil plugs by the timing gears . Or you may have a cam bearing not in right . But first ! What kind of priming tool are you using ? You need the one that blocks the dist hole .

I'm using the Mr. Gasket priming tool, and no it doesn't block the distributor hole... Is that so it builds enough pressure to get to the top? What brand can I get that will do that?

Does your primer look something like this ?

No, it is just the shaft. What brand is that? Or if you can send me a link to the page that would be great.

With the primer I have it only gives the bottom end oiling. Do think if I just poured oil over the rockers before I started it, would it be okay?

With solid lifters I would . Just maky sure you get all the pushrods and lifter with oil to .

I had this happen once and it was due to the pump being completely dry . It would not "pull" the oil up into the system.... Make sure your oil filter is fuel to. i use a old dist. modified to prime.

Thanks guys, I'm sure the primer is the problem. I could see the oil pouring out of the galley in the distributor hole. I just ordered it from summit so I'll see it tues. and let you guys know how it goes.
