Scat or Eagle?

the dart are not alot of the guys i have done engine for have there old intake and want to use it again or can not get the intake in a tall deck so i have cut the dist in the lath and make it a slip collar and run spacer plates

My dist was actually an old fuelie vette dist with the drive gear fo fuel injection---today it would probably be worth what I spent on the engine in 1977

I prefer Scat to Eagle cranks for 2 reasons. The Eagle forged units are cross-drilled while the Scat ones aren't. Plus, Eagle's machining leaves a lot to be desired. I have had to turn most of the Eagle cranks to correct the taper and hour-glass shape on the journals. Scat's machining is very good. With either's rods, I always re-lube and re-stretch the fasteners. I find that they are generally not stretched enough out-of-the-box. Usually they need some honing to make them round after that.

While you don't need the H-type bearings with the cast cranks, I run them anyway. I find that many times the journal radii taper runs out pretty far away from the fillet. The H-type bearings give a little more edge clearance in that area.

I prefer the ACL race bearings. I get them from Engine Pro, they are the Engine Pro brand of race bearing. The price is right and the quality seems better than Clevite lately.

I think the 496 build for the BBC is a great idea. It is not terribly pricey, block clearancing is usually unnecessary. I gives good power and doesn't require a lot of head to get it.

yep all the scat stuff i have used i just had one crank that i had to send back was one 4340 that look like it was polish with 80 grit .i run the tq up and down on the rods then touch them up on the sunnen hone .i do not care for the housing bore size on the rods on the big end of the spec i like hi crush.i like king over clevite never tried the ACL H bearings or engine pro i just may they seam good but the kings are more to size then the clevites. i like the speed pros with the 3/4 main but the size is all over the map and so is the tapper
