Sensory overload on 454
As I'm stripping away the non-essential items off of my recently purchased 454 TBI truck motor ('89 Chevy 1-ton) in preparation to give it a little start up nudge on my engine test run stand, I found four little sensors that I'm doing my "best possible guess" on.

See if you can tell me what they are and win my undying respect and devotion...
- Driver's side, located dead center between middle runners of the exhaust manifold.
- Passenger side, located dead center between middle runners of the exhaust manifold.
- Driver's side, located behind power steering pump assembly.
- Intake manifold front by water inlet and heater hose fitting.
- Closer view of the fitting from the intake manifold.

the one on the bottom of the block looks like it goes into an oil galley, the other three are water temperature senders/switches....

Water temp is 3x the fun?

So, the oil galley would be for some sort of oil pressure / oil temp....got it.

Figured that the sender on the intake would be water temp, as well as the other two on the head (pass and driver side).

So, what was it about '89 t-ton trucks that they needed to have 3 water temp senders?

Sheesh, seems overkill to me.

Probably the other two are just temp sensors/switches for some of the emissions garbage that was on the engine....

And if you have a bigger one on the side of the block, with a single connector, that would be a knock sensor, for the computer, to retard timing.

Thanks for the head's up on the sensory problem. Going forward, I feel much better knowing what things were filling my holes...er, my big block's holes...um, oh, forget it.
