I picked up a 454 out of a 98 Chevy Pick up for Free. I was wondering if it would be any good for a 84 Monte Play toy I take to a 1/8 mile Strip everyonce in a while. Do these need a Vortec intake like small blocks or will a big block intake bolt on these heads? I have found some 502 cams also would this be a decent motor to play with? This will be the first big block I have ever messed with. Thanks

Are the Stock Crank and Rods any Good? I am going to have the crank turned and get some new pistons. Do you have any Cam recommendations? Car isn't driven on the street. How much can a Big Block be bored? Can you reuse roller lifters on a diff cam or do they need replaced like flat tappets do? Thanks for all your help.

It's just a toy. It's a turbo 350 haven't bought a stall yet was gonna wait on it. I have 4.86's in it now but will probably be changing them. Had a Small Block in it before. It's a 84 Monte SS been gutted except for the drivers seat. I am running 29's on the rear now. Anyone have any suggestions on a 1/8 mile gear for a Big Block? . Thanks
I have a 366 out of a truck that has 40,000 on it, it burnt a hole in a piston can i use the crank and rods out of it in my 454 and make a 427? Thanks
why ? yes it can be done but i would use the truck rods out of the 366 less the 454 has the thumb rods pistons are a bit more for a 427 the 454 to 060 over get you a 468 would work very good .Quote:

well i have built some cast steel cranks 4 1/4 cranks with the speed pro hiper pistons i would go that way496 .but you can use the 366 crank and use 427 pistons if you need a one pc main seal 454 crank i have one fresh truned ready to go that would sell for a good price is the 366 a two pc seal you need to run a seal adapter and a internal damper the truck will not work so hot with car or light truck power water etc brackets
Yeah the 366 is a 1 piece also is why i was gona use it. I have a brand new steel 396 crank still in the gm box i was gonna use but wasn't sure if they made the 2 piece to one piece adapter like they have for small blocks.

if you have a 100cc you can use a flat top piston .if you have a dish that should jump it up or a close chamber pistons you may have to trim the chamber out a very small amount to clear how much CR do you want??? at o deck with a flat top you should be at 9.3 . with a close chamber dome piston base off 101cc head you will be at 13.5
