I'm about to purchase a BBC crate engine and am not sure where to look first. I am going with the short block on this purchase b/c i have a great set of BBC Trick Flop Alum. heads and brand new edelbrock air gap intake. I'm also planning on running a 750 holley with vacuum secondaries on top. Anyone have any advice for me on buying a short block crate engine? Thanks all!

Welcome to CHR, Gi0220! We have quite a few BBC owners and builders here who I am sure can give you very good advice.
Where are you planning to buy your short block? Local seller, GM Performance Parts Dealer, or retailer like Summit or Jegs??
any would be fine. however, I dont really know of anyone local in the Binghamton, NY area. so i was thinking more of a website or distributor like sumitt/jegs.
Ibought mine from Gilbert Chevy (formerly Sallee) in Oregon. Shipping was $210 3 years ago. It will cost you now fort sure. I would try Summit or Jegs.

I like that GM performance motor and am considering it as well as the BluePrint Engine 496 stroker short block for the same price. Anyone have experiences with that company? thanks guys! gonna be buying this week.

i am just looking for a short block b/c i already have a nice set of heads, edelbrock air gap intake and 750 holley carb. I think im going to go with a motor from a major distributor so that i can trust it and be confident in the quality of the motor. Anyone have any experience with BluePrint Engines? Looking at their 496 short block for 3,700.
I know a couple people running motors from these guys and they are very happy with them. Not sure if they do short blocks....
Hoping Pat McCarthy will see this thread, he builds some wicked short blocks, made me one heck of an offer on a 496, maybe if I ever get my pickup done and sold.......
thanks dave.. yes i did see this .i have not been on here much .i have alot of engines to build this year. yes if he wants a short block or long block built. i can do that just pm me if you want. i am not a hi volume shop so evey thing is on the money when it is done. any thing from a 454 to638 i have core 454 mark 4 blocks and will be getting some good used tall deck for big cid or any thing new :DQuote:
