Ignition on BBC
I previously ran a msd 6al with blaster 2 coil on a 468, and I forgot
what spark plugs I used, and it seemed to supply sufficent fire..to
up grade to a 496 blown BB, will this ignition system be good enough,
and also what type spark plug should be used? thank rdobbs

i would talk to the guy that is building the engine.but i would say a msd al6 is ok but the 6al BTM that is with aboost master will pull timing out as boost go s up keeps the pistons happy.if you going to run it hard . as for the plugs your heads are close chamber rec ports so start with a 396/375 hp or a 454 L s5 plug i think a RN11yc or autolite 64 would be a good place to start

With the blower wouldn't he be better off with a non projected tip plug??
Just curious..........Buying parts I don't need, with money I don't have, to impress people I don't like

well that is some what of a cold plug .same plug i use in my 548 with 10 pounds of boost on top of a 10to 1 bottom end seams to work fine for a street blower.but pushing more boost or top fuel then no i would not use that plug .75% of the time your not in the boost any waysLast edited by pat mccarthy; 07-26-2009 at 04:20 PM.

well my first bbc had a set like that over 30 years ago it takes abit of work to get them to fit a with roller rockers and a hi lift cam and more mill work for the moon breathers it the only way to go with a blower .i pull one of the plug s that the two blown 502 offshore engines where dyno out with it was one step up hotter then i told you to use them engines were low boost with smaller blowers then what you have but makes over 600 hp on pump fuel so i think your ok .when time comes i will tell you or set up the dist curve and help you tune it inLast edited by pat mccarthy; 07-27-2009 at 03:36 PM.

Beautiful Pat, one of those looks familuar........Do you think one breather
on each cover is sufficient....what do you think of an evacuation kit?

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
