What is the seal diameter suppose to be on mark IV big block balancer? Is it the same from 427s to 454s? The reason I'm asking is I bought a new 427 GM performance balancer from PAW and a new cast front cover from Edelbrock. The seal that was installed in the new cover leaked enough to spatter the windshield before I put the hood on. I pulled the balancer and cover. When I slip the cover on balancer you can hardly feel it slide onto the seal. Small balancer? Faulty seal? Thanks, Keith
well all 396 to 502 gm seals are the same for IV V VI as well as all the damper hub o.d you will have to check the o.d of the see if off on size on the damper but i would be looking at the seal .i can get you the o.d of the damper but it will be much latter today if you have not found it i will post it up

the od of the 3 damper s i had at hand were from 2.332.5 to 2.333
Thanks, mine measures 2.333. I'll try a different seal when I put it back together. The old seal in the cheap chrome front cover it had on it originally fits tighter than the one in this Edelbrock cover. Thanks again.Quote:

yup that to like jerry said if a older 65to67? i think it was 67 ? it s been a long time that i have had one of them blocks ...67 maybe last year with out the pins they have the dist tower casted in the valley of the block as well and cam bearing deal on number 5 were you need to dig a ditch in the 5 journal of the cam for lifter/top end oiling . them blocks had no dowel pins in the front of the block .so then they need to center off the damper before you lock down all the timming cover bolts or will deform the seal
My big block has the pins. With the cover on the pins, the seal is centered around the crank snout. One of my friends had an engine that the crank was to high in the block for the seal to seal on the bottom. He ended up drilling out the dowel holes and letting the seal center the cover.Quote:
