big block blowing up oil filters
I just aquired a 68 1/2 ton truck with a 454. The engine is supposed to be fresh. We started it and it ran for 10 seconds then the seal blew out of the oil filter(what a mess). Thinking it was the fram filter that was on it i bought a napa filter, installed it and filled it with oil and it did the same thing. A friend told me that the filter adapter by pass was probably bad. When i tore it apart the spring fell out in three pieces. I purchased a new filter adapter, oil and a ac delco filter. We then started it and 10 seconds later it blew the seal out again. The guy we got the truck from does not have any info on the rebild as he aquired it from some one that knew nothing about the truck.Any one ever expierence this before?
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
