I think I have found a combo that will work but would like a second (or third) opinion. 427t block, 4.5 crank, howards pistons no hrc4592 with a 6.535 rod. I know I have seen some 525's built with 6.8" rods and wonder would that be a better route, if so what piston pn would work with the 6.8's. my only real issue with the hrc4592 is they only seem to come in .100 over, which I am not to crazy about.
525 is 060 and 4.500 and i did build one some time ago for a air boat .if you use a 6.700 rod with a 4.500 crank 010 down would be a CH of 1.240 and if you used a 6.800 rod it would be 1.140 if you use a 6.535 rod would be 1.405 all piston CH worked off piston down in hole 010 so a deck of 10.190 . as for what rod that up to you as the builder .but je makes pistons that start at 4.280 bore and you can get something up to 4.375 bore if you want a bore that big. then deck the block to where you want it to be. they have a shelf piston that get you very close with the 6.535 rod and there is allways custom pistons. there has been many post on here about how long the rods needs to be??? there is many thing that come in to play here more then just the rod .for heavy load i do not care for any piston CH under 1.230
what do you mean by heavy load, I'm assuming forced induction.
well what are you doing with it ? what rpm ?
mud racing and 6500 rpm should be max.
JE/ SRP PISTON #140685 060 OVER CH 1.395 AND 070 OVER #140686 CC48 DOME this is the piston i used in the 526 .6.535 rod. OR #139837 060 OVER CH 1.245 AND THEY MAKE THEM UP TO 100 OVER THIS PISTON WILL LET YOU USE THE 6.700 ROD THEY ARE HI CR PISTON BUT THERE BOTH SHELF PISTONS and they may make them in a small dome and flat top i did not look. you can do that just look them up on the web
option 1. the 140685 gives me 2.25+6.535+1.395=10.180
option 2. the 139837 gives me 2.25+6.700+1.245=10.195
now the 2nd option only allows .005" to try and clean up the deck surface with, so if the deck surface is a little ugly or pitted (which mine is) I would be SOL.
The 6.535 rod would leave me .020" to clean up and staighten out my deck surface. I think I finally know what I have to do. The first option with a set of dart iron eagles would net me around 12.5:1 compression with those pistons. That oughta fling some mud next summer, should be able to build it for under 5 grand in parts.
yep check the deck were it is now if you tru deck it it very well may not clean up with the 2.245 ch .it will be very hard to build it for under 5 grand you will have that just in new parts and machine work intake to oilpan with roller cam EZ 7000.+ with mild range parts parts i can not buy all the parts for under 6000. for a build like this and i get away better deal on parts then you do:DQuote:

yep guys that build engine every day like me like to build junk engines that good press ..we make so much money building engines :LOL: short block are not hard to build any dumb ass can do that if its some what clean if all the machine work is good . the top end that kills them most of time were guys think they can bolt heads on and not care to check any thing or not know how toQuote:

yeah I learned a few lessons about top end work on this last 454 rebuild, but at least its running now. after all that work they went and cancelled my race on sunday, oh well at least it is ready to go for my race on the 29th.
