427 truck block build questions

I just picked up a 427 chevy tall deck truck block cheap. It has the 4 bolt mains and it is currently getting cleaned/inspected at the machine shop. Previous owner stated it is bored .060.
I want to build a potent big block for the street on a budget. I want to spend the dollars on the bottom end with a nice stroker kit, but not sure on the rod size/length. Scat suggested I go with a longer rod if I went with a 4.25" stroke but the machine shop suggested I keep the rods stock length.
Has anyone had success with building a stroked 427 chevy/tall deck block?

the reason I have used truck blocks was to run long rods
I ran a 4 inch stroke with plus .400 rods and a 454 ch piston in my Monza(avator pic) back around 1980 at 8.003 et 169.90 mph

sounds like you may want to see another machine shop if there talking a stock length rod ? you can use a 4.250 crank or 4.375 or 4.500 crank are ez to get in the 10.200 deck block .i would use a 4.500 crank .you could even use a 4.750 crank with a 6.700 long rod and a ch of 1.120 piston longer rods help with more counter weight on the crank .then longer rods help with getting the pistons to clear when they come a round less your looking it a cast steel crank i would build it bigger then a 496 it will be the same to build as a bigger stroke crank

I have a 470 trk blk, 4.00 eagle and had to clearance the bottoms of the cylinders for the rods.

yep you have the older block .the one to look for is the later block that was 2 pc rear main seal and gm had the block cut out like the 454 on the bottom of the bores . 4.500 crank is just about a drop in. i pick up two of this type of block s new from EQ 7 years ago

the last year before they went to from two to one pc seal was the years you want for a big crank i would say GM re tooled the block in the mild 80 s as this block had a casting on it for a knock ear .this block may have came out about the time GM did the first bow tie 10.200 bock as the bow tie was cut out like a 454 as well but the 427 tall deck did not have thick walls like the bow ties. i had a old 427 like yours no cut outs on the bottom of bores like 454 and was a super thick wall block would of took 4.400 bore EZ. some of the older blocks did say marine on them and i think were pre runners to the bow tie blocks
