thanks, I forgot to say the cam was .273 at .050 at .640 on a 110, 318 adv.
abit small on lift ? that with out lash ? cam close to some cams i used on the street but more lift the Lsa is 110. ok whats 318 adv?
yep i know that advertised  ADV is how Erson saids were they want the intake center. let s say 4 Av intake intake center line is ADV sOOOooo it would be 106. so in short your cam would be 318/318 .@050 .273/.273 lift 628/628 lsa 110 ADV 4 would be 106 intake center line so when i seen it. what is the way i seen it. was i giving him a hard time maybe

Its a clay smith flat tappet, he wants me to put a 1.8 rocker on the intake.
It showed up last week. My last two cams were Erson and Howards and they worked well. I dont want a roller. I want to put it together and leave it together. My 496 was in the 10s on 9.5 compression and a flat tappet solid. I should be able to make 750hp on this 540 with good heads.
HMMM, somehow or another, I see a disassembly in your future. When you ignore the advice of a professional engine builder like Pat, you're gonna have to learn the hard way. Just keep pokin' that bear with a stick!!!
Not that you'll pay any attention to them, but here are some guidelines for installing a flat tappet cam....

Hmmmmm have a AX to grind .did i say you were not going to make 700 hp . that nice you had a 496 that ran 10s on 9.5 CR . your buying good heads and top of the line pistons and putting a flat lifter cam in i just do not get it ? good luck any ways i used direct lube lifters when guys had to run solid howards and erson make big hyd rollers that will say together if you use a short valving hi rpm roller lifter or a solid roller with a set of hippo roller lifters .i can say my cars are not running hippo rollers lifters when i go thru them i use some .i ran rollers on the street for 20+years i never lost one .built many bbc with rollers hyd and solid roller cams
The cam that was in the 496 that I sold had a howards cam in it with direct lube lifters. I had that block indexed on a cnc with bronze bushings for perfect alignment of the lifters. I kept the first cam and lifters in order that I took out, because the lifters didnt have a scratch on them. The car was 3500 with me in it and had a tremec 5spd. Best time was a 10.86 at 127.96. Not to bad for 87 octane and letting of the gas three times down the track to be easy on the drivetrain. Going through at 6300 rpm with a 28 tire and 4.11 gear. This new motor should get me a low 10 at least with alot of clutch and firm shifts. Thanks
the last 540 i built ran 8.50 at 150
