You could run a stockish stall with that cam.
More stall is more transmission heat!!! For the street you want the lowest stall possible that will work with your cam! Without knowing the specs on the cam, hard to say what would work, but probably a 2,000 to 2200 stall would work fine based on the information you've given....
Cam is xe274h. 230/236 duration at .50. , .552/.555 lift with about 10.6 compression . Aluminum heads, any idea an stall and hp?

less you have the same weigth car same engine size .same CR .same carb.intake . this really will not help him much . i have the same weight car as a impala and i using a 9 inch steel stator stall 4500 Coan with a 390 gear and have a car that about 3450 with a 9 inch 3800 stall in it 390 gear. many things come in to play weight and rear and cam duration, carb cfm.and more that cam is much the same cam as my base 454/496 that i build. i tell most of my customers to call the company your going to use and ask them what you will need they know what core size like a 11... 10...9..8. and what stator to use is they build them so they should get close to what it will stall at . but 2500 to 2800 is close. i had very good luck over the years with Coan .the cost of a good stall is not cheapQuote:

Wow, that's not much stall at all! I'm no big automatic trans guys, but going by what most of the guys I know are running with an engine similar to yours, would seem that 2200-2500 stall would suit your car better...
Ya it's supposed to be like a 2200 stall but it dent stall worth crap. Who makes a good stall?
For mild street use, I'd say B&M is about as good as any.... Ordered one for a buddy's car, the tech I spoke with seemed to really know his stuff, the converter stalled within 100 rpm of where he said it would!
All the super trick, hi dollar stuff is nice if you're running an engine that has had every little trick done to it to maximize torque and horsepower, but for the more common stuff, I'd say just a phone call to you're favorite tranny company and a good conversation on what the car has and what you want the converter to do will be just fine.....
your holding the engine down with so small of a stall . ATI and Coan makes some of the best. i wasted a BM in less then two blocks with a real 500 hp bbc so if yours is making that much steam you may want to talk to who ever you use to build or buy a stall from . the weight of your car and the TQ of a bbc will kill cheap stalls, i wasted many stalls . the money that i wasted on cheap junk i got tired of pulling them out sending them in rebuliding then trans and cooler . after all the steel went threw them
I think it is my builder is very good. I need a better stall. Iv got a ati in my olds and it's good.
do not get me wrong you asked if your engine could make 500 hp i do not care who built it :D. you did not post much on your build or did not say what things were done . if you know your engine is making that much. he should of told you were it makes power at?Quote:
