I am finishing up my 468 and need to know the best way to set my valve last before I start the engine.Can I just roll each cylinder to tdc and go to 0 lash and a half turn after that? 10 to 1 comp , big mutha thumper cam, all new comp cams valve train, stainless valves, roller rockers, c396 edelbrock intake, 3310 holley,mallory dist, forged crank,eagle rods and balanced with a built th350,3400 stalland 373 gears. Hope it runs good

I would use more filter element. Stack another filter on top of the one that's there and use a longer stud.
I noticed that my poly locks only screw on my studs about 2.5 or 3 turns. The next longer rocker stud is to long. Can I install a machined washer under the stud and on top of the guide plate togive me more stud engaugement.
Why not use the longer studs but trimmed down to give you full locknut engagement plus 3 threads??
you have some thing very wrong. i been building bbc s for many years use many poly lock set on just about very head and after market . are you sure you have the flat spot face up on the rocker trunnion ? if so your push rod geomerty is off BBC engine have a long push rod exh and short intakeQuote:

I am using stock length valves(manley)7131 int push rod 8.280 long,7141 exh push rod 9.250 , arp 135-7101 rocker studs. The studs say they have a 1.75 effective stud length. I do now see summit shows a set that has a 1.90 effective stud length.
i used stock Gm rocker studs many times flat top them in the stem grinder and had poly nut work fine the studs ARP will work have used them many times 17101 work on every ones rockers i ever used less it a 861 bow tie head ..and i know you do not have them .. you did not say what cam you have roller ? if so wrong push rods .cam should be on base circleQuote:

I am using all comp cams valve train, hyd flat tappet cam with their lifters,push rods,guide plates,springs,retainers,and locks. The only thing not comp cams is the roller rockers, the rockers are PRW brand that I bought from a local speed shop off there recommendation (The person I deal with is a long time engine builder and drag racer so I do trust his judgement.) I am not new to building engines its just been 15 or so years from the last time I built one. Looking at the geometry it all looks correct as far as movement on the roller tip comtacting the valve. I do have #1 on tdc and am checking just that one. I see nothing else other than the stud being short.
well i made a long post and it was lost . but i been at this for 30 years building BBC and have a engine machine shop so i machine them as well as sell new and used race parts. i used just about everones roller rocker stud mounted and shaft mounted race stuff for cams past 750 lift many times . every cam you can put in a bbc. very few time were the ARP studs or stock would not work on a all iron heads with all rocker arms i ever used. sound s like to me you rocker trunnion is not facing up so poly nut not seating in the spot face .or push rods are off on length for you PRW rockers arms i a dealer for them never used them or sold any to any of my customers so i can not say if they need a tall stud should ask you machine shop guy . i would think they should not
I think ARP or Moroso has a chart with pictures in their catalog that show rocker studs by spec including thread size and length on both ends, can't remember which catalog I saw it in......
I have the flat spot on the trunion facing up. I hace checked and rechecked and all I can come up with is the trunion is bigger in diameter than other rockers. I will be stopping by the spped shop and inquiring about this monday and let you know.
arp studs will work part number 1701 is a hair longer then stock GM bbc stud s and fords mosty used Gms and arps both on iron head BBC past 700 lift with 100 longer valves with a 1900.1950 step up on springs.all of rocker ilisted will work Crane golds . Crane builders. Cam Dynamcis . Crower. Harland sharps. Pbm/Howards/ Scopions .Comps .Lunati..Yella Terras as for stud over all and bottom top size both ARP and Manley list rocker studs i sell both but as well as other. i buy mosty ARP has other are rebox ARP or taiwan made studs .taiwan makes alot of retainers and lock /keepers guid plates .you have to watch some of this stuff
They sold me 135-7101 arp studs. I called today and arp lists 100-7101 for use with roller rockers,they are going to exchange mine.
How about spark plugs for this big block , any suggestions? New studs installed and all is well. Just a few more things and should be ready to fire it up.
