Chevelle Project
I have a 1970 chevelle body with no engine or trans and a 3.73 rear. I would like to build a high compression 454 but it still has to be able to run on pump gas. So what kind of combo do u think would work best. I have about 3,000 to spend on the engine, i have the block already. Also what transmission should i use. I know a Super T-10 would work but i would like to use a T-56 will it bolt up to the 454, and how much can that tranny handle.

Don't say, "hi compression" and " pump gas" in the same breath......Keep it down to about 9 to 1 and you will be OK.....

Belive it or not, you can gain better gas mialage by not letting your tank go below 1/2 full, someone that worked at Hunter with my grandfather, we did test it on an EFI vehicle and it did improve MPG by about 5 MPG, supposivly the gas builds up preassure in the tank when there is less of it and supposivly ( just what I was told ) will force more fuel into the induction system, it almost seems like it would be even more effective on a carburation system. I'm not so shure on the reason myself ( I'm kinda doubting what the guy told me ) but, it does increse MPG.

The reason you get more gas mileage is due to the weight of the fuel. after all, a pints a pound the world round. Anyway, EFI systems often have pressure in the tanks.
