Hello everyone,
I am new to this site, and am happy to be here. I "inherited" a '73 split bumper Camaro project with a 454 installed. Nothing was hooked up at all, no history, and as it turns out the seller doesn't know anything.
The engine came out of an RV. Everything looks good- not a lot of miles. The problem I have is where the oil pressure sender is supposed to be located. There are a few threaded holes in the block, but none of them are 1/8". Also, there is the number 74 on the left side below the head. Is that the year? There is a 1/8" port close to the oil filter, but it is plugged.
I have a lot of experience with engines over the years. From Cosworths in formula cars to bike engines, but this is new to me. No one around here can help.
This project is going to turn out great as this is a very cool car, but I need help.

Welcome to CHR.
The port most often used is the one on the oil filter boss, just above the filter/block joint.

Depending on the year of your block, you may also have a second port located on the block behind the distributor, just below the driver's side intake to block joint. Some guys running a stick find that the clutch bellcrank requires some creative plumbing adapters to use the one on the filter boss.

Thanks for that info. There is also an 1/8" port just to the left of the 1/4" port above the filter boss. Could I use that?

Spin the motor and see if it spits oil.

Why are you hung up on 1/8"NPT? A 1/4"MNPT to 1/8"FNPT brass fitting will cost you about $2 at the hardware or auto parts store.

I already thought of that. The 1/8" port is plugged. The sensor is 1/8" NPT. I think GM may have a 1/4 to 1/8" adaptor, but to screw this into the 1/8" port would be great. There are a few other ports, or holes with threads on this block, and am definitely going to spin it over with the plugs out to see what happens...
