timing problem! Please Help.

I have a new 350 that isn't starting. Everything is in right, I've put it tdc and compression stroke, number one is on rotor and still not starting up. It sounds like its going to start but just doesn't quite make it. Any ideas? Thanks

Welcome to CHR. this is a cool site. and it's a great place to learn stuff and to share what you know:) :) :)

Check the wire which feeds to your distributor. I had this happen once on a car I had built---damn thing would fire and try to start, then as soon as I let off on the ignition start position it would die.----I did a lot of head scratching, but finally figured out that the way I had it wired the distributor was getting current when the key was in start position, but as soon as I let the key back into "run" position the current wasn't flowing to the distributor. I had wired the car up wrong. Back in the 60's a bad coil resistor would do the same thing----distributor got full 12 volts when key was in start position, but as soon as the key was turned to the normal run position the coil resistor (which was supposed to supply 8 to 10 volts to the coil to extend coil life, but was bad and passing nothing) the engine would die.

since you brought up the coil that got me thinkin. i have had the same thing to happen to me on my mom's 81 chevy with the electrical ignition some times your ingnition modulater can go bad and do the same thing.

this may sound stupid but it has made a huge diffrence in all of my cars. are your battery cables big enough or is your ground big enough i have found this to be a very important factor on all of my cars
