hey i have a 350 small block in my nova. i just replaced the intake manifold gasket and changed the coolant and oil. but now when i try to get it running , all the poor thing does is sputter and die after about a minute. its also got white smoke coming from the tailpipe. can anyone help??

have you got it in time? the smoke sounds like you might have a vac. leak at the intake. or the smoke could be where you got some oil and water on top of the piston while you was changing the intake and have not had time to burn it off. id be cheching the timimg and for a vac leak. why did you change the intake ? :HMMM:
I changed the intake manifold gasket because there was oil leaking form the rear of the engine. The gasket was coming out. I was wondering if it is antifreeze in the engine how do i get rid of it?? the sputtering is the worst problem though, it will sputter like its trying to breath for life! then it will just cut out. how do i re-time an engine? this is my first old car.
if its oil or antifreeze you spelled into the cylinders while changing the intake it will burn off. if it is leaking new fluids leak into the cylender now then you may have a intake gasket problem. you had to pull the dist out to get the intake off how did you put the dist. back in?Quote:

When you took the old gasket off how did you put the new one back on? Didn't use some kind of abrasive disk or grind it off did you? If so then you could have sealing problems and/or have a leak.
