302 stroked to a 383?
I just read an article in April Super Chevy about a 1969 Z/28. It says the stock 302 was bored and stroked to a 383. That's a lot of boring and stroking isn't it? Well I guess it's possible if they say they did it but what will it take and is it worth the trouble? Is a 302 just a destroked 350? What is the difference between a 305 block and the 302? ---Rich

302 block is identical to 350 block. It has a 4 inch bore and a smaller crankshaft. Same with a 327.
The 305 has a smaller bore than the 350, but the same stroke. The cranks are not interchangeable, though, because the 305 has smaller balance weights.

But why would anyone in their right mind take a stock ( extenely read rare) 302 and stroke it to 383, when they could have taken any 327 or 350 block and done it? I mean a numbers matching 302 SBC is worth it's weight in gold. Doesn't make any sense.

350 and 305 cranks are interchangable. Same crank with minor balance difference. Look in any catalog. Same part no.

same reason people flare out 50s vettes to drop in 454s, cause they care about power and have all the money in the world, so they really dont care if they butcher another mans dreamjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day
