question about 350cid

hey i recently changed out my lifters everything seems to be in order except for when i go to start the car it turns over normally but i get alot of backfire in the carb. is this a timing facter? any help would be great..also i have not adjusted the vavles yet i left them loose to hear the tap to adjust while the car is running..chilton suggest the cap and rotor are faulty but before i did the work everything was fine execpt for extreme vavle tick even after adjustment later to find almost all of my lifters had no spring any ideas could really use the help on this one

I get that all the time a I still ain't figured out what makes it do that but I've been told that's what it is.

Get your valves adjusted first, that could be tha cause of your backfire. You can adjust them either while it's running or sitting. If you need to know how, let me know and I'll explain both to you. If you still have backfire, in my experience backfire through the carb is usually timing. Not always, but usually.

well i took a breather stepped back and figured it out my backfire was related to bad timing i adjusted the valves and now it purrs like a kitten thanks for your help!!

Sometimes that is all it takes. Take a breather and it all falls together. That is one of my motto's, when you get frustrated, step back and breath, generally when you come back it falls right together.

What works best for me is to stand back and breath, then get a beer.
