recently built 350 with edelbrock perf. RPM 70cc heads, perf. RPM cam, intake, and 650 mighty demon. just started to have a problrm with the headers glowing red even at low RPM. Any ideas?

.slow timing and more than likely your running fat. your running enough fuel to build a fire in the headers.

a motor running lean will turn the headers red also. make sure the timing is right and richen the idle up in the carb. :cool:
My first guess it too lean -
Had a '66 HD Sportster that made pipes cherry red - then blue when cooled down.
I had to put a bigger jet for a richer mixture.
I always thought of it like a burning torch, no oxygen yields a very rich but 'cool' flame.

I had the same exact problem last summer on my rebuild. I had to order a calibration kit for my carb to richen it up. I changed the jets and rods and the heat dropped dramatically. There is still the slightest dull red for about the first 2-3 inches of pipe, but not the bright orange/red glow that had been there. I just need a little more tuning to get it dialed in right now.
