I built a 327 63 Nova years ago. You'll need the V8 nova front-sump oil pan, pump and pickup. You might be able to find an aftermarket pan. If you decide to use a manual trans, it requires a different bellhousing than other Chevies. The car is light, so it will go real good!

re 283
I am partial to the 327 short stroke and big bore sweet. 283 are fine but not as many available options.... the easiest by far is the 350 DH

I've had several 283 powered Chevy II/ Nova's..... It's a good combo.
The 283 is a LOT cheaper to buy and easier to find than a 327 and... the later 305/350/ etc. have the different main seal and will not work with most OEM front sump Nova oil pans.
JW Nova has everything for the swap as does Ebay. I think I might even have an oil pan kicking around.
Also, the powerglide goes right in-- but a TH350 is a btter setup. The TH350 crossmembers are available aftermarket.
I think I used a 70's Camaro Radiator with "L" shaped brackets on my first Nova swap-- saved me a bundle-- hope this helps!
When I was about six years old, a race car on a trailer went past our house. I thought it was the coolest thing I had EVER seen! And I haven’t been the same since. That was over fifty years ago. ...
How did you get hooked on cars?
