I dont really care much about OD in a hotrod...The TH400 is also a very easy transmission to build so it won't cost me hardly anything for the trans...
Anyone have any suggestions on cylinder heads, where to get an engine kit, ect...?
I think what ill do is: 454 bored to 510 or just a little smaller...demon carb, haven't decided what intake yet, haven't decided on heads yet, lemme know!
Hopper, you can't get that many cubic inches by just boring a big block, you have to use a stroker crank. 468 is about as big as you want to go with boring it (0.060" over). If you're lookin' for 500 inches, look at these stroker kits. These aren't the only ones available, do a google search and you'll probably find others......

I honestly dont know what im thinking...i can't afford a big block car because just to get into town with the car so i can show it off id use a gas tank...nasty
500 inches is too big...any suggestions? I need a streetable motor, one that is respectable, powerful, but still drivable...
(ps 5 mpg is not enough lol)
Hopper, you're gonna have to make a decision. Either build a fast car and pay for the gas or build a not so fast car and pay less. The bottom line is, it takes more fuel to make more power.
what's the biggest engine that i could fit into a 1984 camaro WITHOUT making any front end modifications? i dont really want to have to mod the frame...
Well, you can put any size small block in there with no mods, for instance a 400 stroker motor, because it would be the same physical size as a 350 and about the same weight.
You could go to a big block Chevy with just a spring change and some guys don't even do that. Eaton has springs of every size and description to maintain the same attitude as stock with the heavier motor in place as well as maintaining the correct geometry (control arms at stock attitude).
You can put a 383 stroker (350) with no problem, also can go with a 454 but you will need to look at a lot of body renforcement as the unibody will not take it wothout. A 454 will twist the body real BAD.

for an 84 camaro I'd put in a nicely built small block. If you want torque build a 383 or a 400 and get a blower.
I have no money...my truck (daily driver) just took a poop in the area of the transmission...I had to pay for the parts and a few other mild things for the engine to keep it running so itll be awhile before i have any money for that kind of stuff..
Why not use Vortec heads instead of the more expensive World heads? They're not too expensive from Scoggin-Dickey or Northern Auto, and you can also find good used heads at any speed shop. You can build a decent motor (355, 383 stroker, etc.) for relatively cheap if you want to...
I"m going to switch to vortec heads when I find a decent pair , but I doubt I can find them with a 58cc chamber. BTW what's the smallest chamber those vortecs come in?
ok good news people...I have 300 dollars from my paycheck, a paintball set that im gonna sell for 400 and a collection of magic cards (yea yea those were my younger days) that im gonna sell for 300 so ill have about 1000 dollars that i can put towards a motor...I either want to go with the 335 stroker OR i want to go with a mild injected 350 (holley sells an injection setup for like 350 dollars for a 5.7...the 5.0 is like 380) Lemme get a vote and or other suggestions.
(the motor is going into a 1987 chevrolet pickup and it has to be a daily driver)

How about this, it might work. a 1979-1981 267 SB is the same bore as a 350, maby a 267 with a 283 crank, it would make it smaller than original but would wind up quick. I don't know if you can mix the 283 crank with the 267. Another option is to fit a 400 crank in it, that would make a stroker, you'd end up with like a 302 in the end with the 400 crank.
