How good is David Vizard???

Hello Folks, I've just bought some books on engine building written by David Vizard, I read some Threads here in the forum saying that's the way to go if you want basics and don't have a lot of "cubic money". The one I'm specificly interested in is the "How to build max performance Chevy small blocks on a budget". I've now read it from cover to cover and it seems to be very good, however, I'm of course no judge when it comes to engine building. Has anyone tried his combos or really gone "By the Book"? How well does this work? Would appreciate any technical Info on where some people might think he went wrong or what might be a really good book on engine building...

I think he knows his stuff.

As I recall the book you are talking about covers 10 different engine builds using low cost options. Some, like knurling stock pistons to tighten up skirt clearance, do not appeal to me. But they are accepted techniques that can save you a bundle on parts and machine work when you are confronted with minor wear.

I have not built an engine to one of his "formulas". What I like about tyhe book is that he explains what he is doing and why and he goes into detailing and blueprinting for power.

I've never met David. But I would take his advice over that of most Chevy "experts" around here.
