Rebuild 327 or buy a stroker?

Hi,
I bought a worn-out Cobra some time ago and try to renew it step by step. It has a 1969 327 engine (and a TH350) which runs quite good but consumes too much oil. The main question now is if it makes sense to rebuild the engine or buy a completely overhauled stroker. I don't want to race with my car but as I live in Germany and we don't have a speed limit on many streets the engine might be subject to high rpms over a longer period (30-60 mins). I know that a 383 will deliver a huge torque at low rpms but does it stand rpms over 5500 permanently? Sorry if my questions are so silly but I am a newbie regarding that topic and there is almost no chance to find v8 experts over here. Thanks

according to the interchange parts manual it's a medium(2.45/2.10), my "expert" says it should be small. We will see...

What you're concerned with is piston speed in feet per minute. The generally accepted limit for cast crank, rods and pistons is 3,500 fpm. For a 327 with its 3.25"stroke, this would equal 6,460 rpm's. For a 350 with 3.480"stroke, 6,030 rpm's, for a 383 with 3.750"stroke, 5,600 rpm's. With more heavy-duty components such as forged crank, rods and pistons, a motor might tolerate 4,000 fpm.

Of course there are racing situations where these limits are breached, but the motor is not normally held at these high rpm levels for an extended period of time.

O.K.,I am sure we will have a lot of opinions on this one.The first thing I would do is run a 3.08 gear.Then I would install a 700 R4 tranny with a cooler.I would run any Chevy 350 4- bolt main with an ARP stud kit.I would try and run the largest capacity oil pan there is,and an oil cooler,I would also try and run 50% senthetic oil.People might think I am crazy for saying but I would run a 4340 forged steel crank,I-beam forged steel rods with ARP capscrews,Forged flat top pistons,try and find light weight pistons around 450 grams,plasma moly rings,h-series bearings,a hyd. roller cam and lifters,I would run a cast iron head with a port volume of 180 to 190 cc,stainess steel valves,7/16' ARP screw in studs and guide plates,roller rockers 1.5 ratio 7/16 stud,a stud girdle,single plane intake,650 Demon carb.a MSD distributor and 6al box,Make sure you have 1/2 inch line from your gas tank to the fuel pump with at least 100 gal. per hour to be safe,7/16 line going to each float bowl.6-7 lbs at the carb.I hope this does not stir things up.
