You may have to look for a(turnable) crank in a salvage yard.Quote:

cleaning up the nicks wont work at all?
I would take the crank to the machine shop and ask them to (mic) the crank and see if it is usable. If it is std, std, now I would not go any more than .020, on the rods and .030 on the mains for a stock type rebuild.Quote:

i dont wanna sound like a jerk but i got some q's
the crank is good it just had a couple nicks on the rod journals
wouldnt smoothing down the nicks be almost the same as how it was?
thanks
I have used a very fine tooth machinist's file to file down a nick or two in a crank journal before. It's not rocket science.Quote:

ok thanks guy i really appreciate it
I've filed down some pretty bad nicks and got by with it. Forget to put a hose on the rod bolts and let the bolt nick the shaft. in the old days we would clean up a shaft that had turned a bearing, with a piece of emery cloth and shim the bearing up with shim stock, but people don't do that no more.
ic thanks
rod bolts raise hell on the crank. i have fix small nicks on cranks i use a fine honing stone and then hit it with some 400 wet dry paper or send it down and get it polished i still do it this way but i use a crank polisher and polish them my self you need to make sure it is low or the crank will eat up the bearing. the dent will raise up the sides of the low spot you need to make sure this is not hi.
