Would it be a bad idea to try to find a supercharger on ebay? Either one that works or one that is bad and needs rebuilt? If i really really wanted a supercharger but didn't have the money to buy a brand new supercharger from a company what are my options?
I would never buy a blower off ebay from an individual. There are too many ruthless people out there. If it's an ebay store that has a track record, that's a different story.
what other means are there of obtaining a supercharger? I want one so bad and I plan to build my 383 stroker so that it can have a super charger but I don't want to wait for 3 years to be able to afford the brand new supercharger kit.
Heat up your Visa or Mastercard.
Get a second job. (I've held two jobs as a young man)

Sell something you already have.
Borrow the money from family or friends.
Borrow the money from the bank with collateral.
What you have to be careful of is (on a roots type blower) cracks or scored marks on the rotors or case. The other problem that you can run into is the incomplete kit that's short a pulley or bracket that you won't be able to find or that will cost you an arm and a leg. That's why I'd never buy a blower and/or kit that I couldn't inspect in person before I laid out the cash unless it was from a reputable supplier.
i know you wrote a paper on blowers, i seem to have misplaced it somewhere. I printed it off once but that has been a few months ago.
What kind of hardparts would i need to look at for a supercharged motor?
what type of compression should i be running before the charger?
how about compression with the charger on there?
what preparations do i need to do in order to make my engine ready for a supercharger?
would you advise a turbo or a supercharger?
While were on the subject of saving, I would like to say something as a person only a few months older than you. If you plan on going to college or moving out soon, please do not spend all of your money on a supercharger. Having savings when supporting yourself is much more important than a supercharger. I would recommend getting a nice ammount saved and put aside and then saving for the SC, you will really be happy later on in life. And just think, what if that big ol' motor blows after you get on it for a while, would you have the money to buy a replacement motor?
BUT, if you must have it right this minute, Tech listed some fine examples of how to get money. I only recommend a certain few though ;)
OH, and also! If you wait until you have the money to spend on it, chances are your knowledge on the subject due to increased exposure to the subject (because you're interested in it now). I don't know about you, but I always feel better when purchasing something that I am knowledgable about. Especially when it comes to mechanics and motors. Ya know?

Depending on the boost you will use, most fellows if planning over about 6 lbs of boost will use a 4-bolt block, steel crank and rods and forged pistons.
Compression around 8:1 will support a blower very well.
Look at Blower Drive Service's site. Click on "tech info" and you can figure all kinds of different combinations.
Turbo or supercharger is up to the individual.
I want to know the facts about 4 bolt and 2 bolt blocks... Does it really matter? I mean i could see using a 4 bolt if we were talking about 1000 HP or something but for just a good stout street motor, does it seriously matter? It's not like i'd be running 20lbs. of boost or anything...
At 20 lbs of boost, I would be looking for a 4 bolt block.
Ya know Hopper, the older you get, the more cautious you'll become. I'm pretty sure that ...ALL... the old guys on here would start with a 4-bolt block, steel crank and forged pistons if they were going to hang a huffer on a motor, no matter what boost they had in mind presently. Once you get the taste of a blower, you'll want to add more boost and more boost and if you start with the correct components, you won't have to unscrew the motor and do it over.Quote:

Hopper, have you tried calling Don Hampton of Hampton Blowers? He's on the net- I belive this is it...www.hamptonblowers.com he has rebuilt units for about 1/2, and has a very good name in the biz.....
i plan to be around the 600hp range with my 383. I will be running around 7lbs boots with my 6-71. I bought a gmc core 6-71 off ebay and sent it to superchargerusa.com and had them get it ready for me. I didnt save any money doing it this way =/ Almost ahead to just buy it all new

heads are very important with a stiff set of valvesprings

you can put a 6-71 on a stock engine and it will
ROCK!! but not for long....
