Thanks, I figured it had something to do witht he chamber due to the fact that any time the word "bored" is used, "and honed" follows it.

As for the machine, is it much different than a mill?

Hey Scooter, tell me when you're gonna start on it and I'll start on a Pinto with a 302!!! Then we can go race!!!! Gotta be a manual tranny though, non of this 'glide stuff!!!! Heads up, no electronics, no breakouts!!! Just the way it used to be, and in my opinion still should be!!!!! You'll be back in August, good a time as any to get started!!!!!

I've primarily always gone the big cubic inch route, because they pretty much loaf along and can make awesome horsepower with very little work. But I have a 306 Ford in my '27 and a 302 in my Jeep truck, and they really responded well to basic modifications.

I hadn't been at the drag strip for years, and my 2 Sons and I went to the Ford Nationals in Bradenton a couple of years back. I couldn't believe the power some of the 5.0's were making. True, most of them were no longer 302 cubes, but those small blocks would haul.

My last (probably my last) serious engine is a 30 over 460 Ford that I am building for either a T bucket, or I am toying with the idea of building a bracket altered with it. The engine has mostly Cobrajet parts, a roller cam that is really too radical, roller rockers, ss valves, etc. and I can say 2 things about building a big block versus a small block:

1) Parts are a whole lot more money.

2) Parts are a whole lot HEAVIER !!

I lifted the crank not too long ago, and it must weigh twice what a 302 does.

I might be getting too old to build big blocks anymore..............NAH !!!!!

That's ok too, long as it's got all three pedals and at least 4 forward gears!!!! One of the rags had a buildup on AMC motors a couple years ago. If I remember right, they needed some work on the oiling system to live. You have a pm, Scooter

yeah they do need a little work on the oiling system not much though. oh dave my cars going to have a t-10 4 speed in it when i get back him and a friend are going to do it for me when im gone dial it in:D im depressed though i wanted to help im a hands on person haha. dad's gonna 5 speed his car with a straight axle this summer beat me to it!
