charger on a 350?
hey guys whats up? i got a 69 chevelle with a small block, i was considering building the bottom rock solid and putting a small charger on top ( a 174 i think ? about the same size as the ones on the ford lighting trucks ) but my question is, is this streetable? or am i waisting my time and money? i know, i know, just get a big block, but call me crazy i like the small blocks :whacked:!
my second question is, how good do the heads have to be if you are forcing air into the engine, i realise that a bigger port is good for a naturally aspirated engine but what about a blower car? i am keeping this car a street car ( it ran 15 a second with a stock 350 ) i also have a m22 rock crusher 4 spd behind it and a 355 eaton posi 12 bolt with 10 inch tires. i am trying to get into the 12-13 second class can i do this by up-ing the compression and playing with intakes? or do u guysthink i need a power adder ? also not big on nitrous, ( trying to keep it old school - i love a blower whine:D **) !!) any comments thanks guys!!! cool website!! kenny

If you also add the proper cam for your setup you should be close. I had a 144 on my 34 Ford and it would surprise you.:eek:

You won't need to up your compression with a blower, the blower will create a higher cylinder pressure anyway. If you want to keep it streetable you don't want to use a too big cam either (which could cut cyl pressure down again due to a longer/earlier overlap period). You might get good results for street use if you use a dual carb and only let the second on kick in at around 3/4 throttle. Then you can run round town on one carb and on the strip you've got two... What would the others think about this?
But then there's always the question of price... If you're on a tight budget a blower sometimes tends to need parts that fall out of your budget :CRY:
For a cam check out the main cam websites and tell them what you want and what you have, there are all kinds of things you need to check if you use a blower...

Welcome to CHR, Kenny. I believe I would go directly to the blower manufacturer and see what his recomendations are for innards on the engine. My experience with heads and a blower is just get some quality pieces and decent port sizes in the heads, then let the blower pack it in!!!!!!

if you do anything with the compression, lower it to around 8:1, and run the maximum preassure. you will want it around 8.5:1 or lower for a forced induction system, too high and you will blow it up.
