As an alternative, have you thought of getting a correctly rebuilt
Q-Jet? This Car Craft article describes the process from JET.

I bought one from them for an 85 Chebbie truck and it was great. JET
asked me about the engine detail and built the thing. I bolted it on
and set the idle speed and it was perfect. These guys know their stuff
on Q-Jets.....and the mileage was mucho improved. Plus, I didnt have to
jack with the manifold, the linkage, the fuel line, etc. Highly recommend
them. Advice: call them directly and buy it directly....dont buy the
Edelbrock stuff.....more $$

dont feel too bad, i lost to a 4cyl a coupla weeks ago, i was about 100 yards ahead of him already in 5th and i went to downgear in 4th and missed and hit 2..... now i'm building a new motorjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day
Ditto on the model kits! My best were lost when the Hobby Shop burned under suspicious circumstances....
How did you get hooked on cars?
