Thermostat problems

:confused: A sbc 350 with my weiand supercharger no matter what gasket or what i do eventually the t stat gets loose in the housing letting watter leak past i change the gasket and it holds tight for about 1 week .

It doesnt leak on the outside but past the t stat itself kinda like not having one at all a free flow system it sucks and i cant seem to fix it .

I can only use 1 type of t stat housing a chrome one are there any t stats out there i can use with say a rubber gasket around it or something

I can pull the upper hose off and stick my finger down the neck of the housing and wiggle the stat around and i cant tighten up the housing anymore ort i snap a bolt off in the manifold .

Jason, I would check the following:

• verify you have the correct thermostat for your application
• bench test the thermostat to verify it will open at the correct temperature
• Verify correct installation, not installed upside down
• verify that the thermostat is sitting flush into the manifold recess
• verify that you have the correct manifold bolt lengths

Based on your description I would assume you have the wrong thermostat housing. The gap between the manifold and housing is incorrect allowing the thermostat to move up and down and coolant to bypass. Check the mating surfaces of you housing against a stock sb350 housing.

i actually asked weiand about this problem they gave me a t stat number which was the same one i allready had then they told me if i still had the problem which i do to send the manifold back to have it machined further incase the spot where it sits is to deep which i cant afford to do as this is my only car

use hi temp permatex to seal the edges of the tstat to the edges of the housing, thats at least how us ford guys do it.... but i cant think of a time i've ever put one in a chevy

i believe denny is on to something with that o-ring. :cool:

This is the type of problem incurred from aftermarket chrome housings.

The "o"-ring that Denny suggested shoud fix it.

Thanks to all who replied ill give it a shot hope it works the first time sure is a drag to remove the carb then the supercharger just to do the swap but it is what it is .
