Looking for a little advise........

I am getting ready to build my 3rd SBC. I have been acumulating parts for a little while. My last project I couldnt keep together. It was a 350 6 bolt with 400 crank 35 over. Stock internals... Lasted about a year in my 1980 k 10

I just baught a 305 roller motor out of a early 90's Z. What I want to do is do a 400 crank, double hump heads 202 190 valves, and use the 4.3 chiped computer and harness for injection, sbc v8 tb and injection manifold.

What my question is can I use my double hump heads on this block, and do TB injection with these heads? can I do a 400 crank in a 305? i will want to punch it out, How much do I want to go.


The block is fresh.. so I wont have much done besides bored and I figured I would do a balanced rolling assembley from like jegs.... I currently have the doulble hump heads fresh with big valves and hardened seats....
I would like to use the stock roller cam, if possible .


Ahhhhhh I dont know anything I need to know.... I am sorry if I confused anyone as My train of thought confuses myself...

Why all that for the small bore 305?? Doubt you can bore it more then .060... Get a 350 block so you at least have some cubes. The 400 crank in a 350 block I think makes a 377, the chebbie guys will fill you in on the details. What is a 6 bolt????

What caused your last motor to break? I think the factory 400 crank and rods are weak pieces, and won't take a lot of RPMs. I do know of a 10 second 406 '69 Camaro that ran 10s, but it had aluminum rods.

A 350 CRANK IN A 400 BLOCK IS 377.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON A 305.

A stock 4" bore 350 block with a 400 crank is a 377.
A 350 block overbored 0.030" with a 400 crank is a 383
A 350 crank in a stock bore 400 block is a 372.
A 350 crank in a 400 block overbored 0.030" is a 378.

well my current motor is a 350 60 over with my 400 crank. I have a spun bearing. It doesnt nock on moving the RPMS up but when it comming back down.
It is a 1980 target block! and im pretty sure its not a 4 bolt, In fack I know its a 2 bolt, and I really dont want to use it again......

The 305 is a early 90 z28 motor. It is a roller motor! So I was always told that the 305 heads were really restricting on these motors, so I figure Id use my fresh double humps 202/160s, my 400 crank "if its not all scared up" and go fuel injection and build somthing that wont be as easy to distroy but still make some power????

I want to do this fairly inexpensivly. I have the 305 short block. I have the 400 crank. I have all the fuel injection stuff, and I have the double hump heads. So I want to use what I have with out buying a ton and still make something fun to drive.

Hmm, using parts only because you happen to have them is not always a good idea. To build an engine that goes fast, and is fun to drive a long time you need to get the combination of parts correct. SBCs are very forgiving when it comes to running at all. Almost any combination will in fact run. But not always well. Consider your needs and the vehicle weight, set yourself a budget and then shop around for parts you need to achieve your goal. If parts you already have fall into this margin, so much the better. If not, keep them for later and buy other stuff for this engine. Building a motor is such a lot of work you don't want to kick yourself afterwards for saving 100 Bucks somewhere along the line.
But that's just my opinion, as always.
