Gen I Intakes

Do you guys have an opinion a a decent Gen I Intake manifold? I have an early OEM Qjet type, and plan to use a Holley 4175 on it for an early 327 build I am currently working on. Been trying to find an early Torker but so far no luck. If I could find one, I would likely go with a Holley 4160 square bore carb. I really want to use the old style so I can stay with my OEM Logo Valve covers.

Any other intake recommendations? Motor will be stock, flat tops and 1.94 humper heads (64cc). May get a little aggressive on the cam, but nothing major. Will use the old rams horn exhaust manifolds too.

Want to avoid a Qjet, not because I dont like them, but simply for the reason that I want to use a manual choke, and I can convert the divorced choke on the Holley with ease. FYI, the 4175 is a spread base, 650 CFM vac secondary carb (List 8546)

If you don't have any luck finding a manifold, check out your local salvage yard. You might be able to find a factory aluminum intake. I have seen some '80s era cars with them. They might not flow as good as an aftermarket intake, but you are already keeping your stock exhaust manifolds, so I assume you aren't terribly concerned about that. Also, the early 70's and earlier Qjets can be had with a manual choke. I am not trying to start the whole "my carb is better than your carb" debate, but I think the Q-jet is the way to go.

Would LOVE to have a manual choke Qjet. Cannot find one anywhere, nor can I find any information about GM ever making one, yet a few guys say that they are out there. Got a lead?

These things are pretty cheap. I have bought a couple of them. You have to be careful with them though, I think they are remanufactured by cavemen. I had to return one of them and get a replacement, but for the $$, it is still worth the investment. I think I paid right around $100.00.

Thanks for the tip! Went and looked - only one they had was a divorced choke, but the PN you cited matched. Will keep trying.
