has anyone installed a windage tray?, if so how is it done?
I have never installed a pre-made one. I have made mine for most of my engines. It helps to have the engine on a stand and upside-down. To seal it, I use GOOD black silicone applied sparingly. I suppose you could use two gaskets like the manufacturer says, but when I make one, I consider it as a permanent part of the block.
It pretty much depends on the engine and the design of the windage tray. Some such as a 72 LT1 Corvette motor I have use special main cap bolts that are extended and threaded on the ends to hold the windage tray in place. My FE Ford uses a tray that sandwiches between the pan and the block.
ok just wondering was is a windage tray and what does it do? do you have to have one on your engine or not?
how hard is it to install one, and can you get them at any part store?
