hrm, then i must be to if i still build 283s ??????? i was thinking about building a front engine dragster an old guy in town has a jig and my buddy is a structural steel welder he'd do it just for the expierience! how much is steel these days or do i need not ask!
Steel has gone up sure, chrome moly or mild. Either can pass tech and the fun and experience. Front engine? Very cool. Go for it. small cubes, still fast and fun.
If one really has to use a stock, non-powdered rod, get some TBI rods, have them shot-blasted, install ARP bolts, and have them resized.
Paint them pink if you want to..........
tom
I thank you all for your good ideas . But I also am uneasy about using import rods or cranks . I like the Gen 1 USA Chevy parts . COOL
what the heck kinda steel tubing would you use anyway? 4130? or not?
No problem--we all have our preferences and if experience is the best teacher, take your time, do it right, and you will have a satisfactory result. Good luck with your build!Quote:

this guy stole my name
I thought the term "Pink Rods" meant that the rods were magnaflux inspected. This typically resulted in a pink residue left on the rods.Quote:

These are GEN 2 rods but shop tom said they are good ones. And I do think they will work fine in my 1970 GEN 1 build . Thanks again :)

Funny, I saw in another thread that mentioned Scooter and I though that it was strange as I hadn't posted anything on it...
This seems like a real friendly board!
