would a holley 650 4165 carb work well on my 70's 350 bored .030 over dome pistons not sure of compression ratio, some kind of performace cam not sure what it is eather and what it looks like the heads are stock 350 iron wit fitted 2.011" intake and 1.63" exhuast its got comp cam stud girdles too so would a 650 be good for this motor or could i go bigger, well if u guys need more info on this shit then ill see what i can do but maybe sombody can give me a good idea thanks
I guess I should've just come out and asked this question on the other thread.....How big are you wanting to go with it? 750? 830? 850? 950? 1050? 1150?....

damn well a 850 woulld be nice and now the 1050 i already know that motors not ready for that but well its got regular I-beam rods and id like to keep those heads on it umm ill prolly just end up geting a 750 prolly but what kinda cam lift would i need for for the 750cfm carb?
Even using 100% efficiency (which your motor will never see), a 350 turning 6,000 rpm's will pass only 607 CFM.
How heavy is the car? New 4165's are mechanical secondary, if your car is light and you can tune, it'd probably be pretty nice. It's a spreadbore carb.
Like I said in my other reply on the first thread, I don't think that 650 won't be enough carb for you. Again though, it really depends on what cam you have, what you're intending to do with it? etc.....In other words, is this going to be a daily driver or a racer?
If you aren't climbing up over 6500 rpms a lot, the 650 will really be (as techinspector mentioned) too much already; but it can be tuned down. Throw an 850 on there and you'll find that you'll be jetting it down and tuning it way down and probably still have problems with it. Your motor just won't huff enough air to make it work right. Carbs that big are for Big Blocks or racing small blocks that get wound up really high and have rumpety rump, radical cams, not driver small blocks that rarely get above 3500 rpms.
Try Holley's calculator for yourself and I think you'll see what I mean.
In the end if you really have to have an 850 on there just for the "yeah it's got an 850 on there" coolness factor, I really think you'll be way over carb'd and have problems with it. That's just my opinion though and I don't consider myself an expert.

I would go with the most over Looked Holley D/P . It's the 700CFM D/P # 4778C . I have used them on 327-355s and they were just right . Very good carb the cost is $383.95 . One thing that # 4165 D/P Holley . It's a spreadbore carb . They also work very well on 350s . I have run them on mild 350s with better E.Ts then a Q-Jet . When you look at one of them . You will think it is bigger then a 650CFM . The Chevy one is a part #6210 . I would try that model 4165 #6210 first . If you do not like it . One of us will take it off your hands :) COOL
well its a 86 monte carlo, 700r4 trans and i already have the 650cfm 4165 d/p and why not ill go 6500 rpm on that 355 i mean its a 4bolt main but i got a edelbrock idle to 5500 manifold so i can always tune it down. would i have to buy new jets or just turn them down or what , im not too fimialar wit the whole holley seen just thes q-jet lol
Try it like it is first . I think the Jets that are in it stock will be fine for a mild Street / Strip 355 . The one I had was a little rich on my mild 350 . But it work good right out the box .

all i know is it was a built motor, i never seen or heard it ran but all i know is my grampa put it in his surberbin to drive down to flordia with and he had to use 93 octane and ran a q-jet carb on it )-: with stock exhaust manifolds and muffler(s) regular 350 heads and iron intake, and it was idlling like it got alot of overlap.
that 650 carb is brand new in the box like from 16 years ago right and it was just sittin in the basement suposly its a stock replacment for q-jet
