rebuilding 350

Im new to the site and not a hot rod owner, I am however dropping a 350 into my Jeep. I have the motor sitting outside in the rebuild stages, It will be getting dropped in about another month. I read somewhere on one of your threads that summit puts out a boof on rebuilding this motor, can anyone tell me if I can get this at a book store or parts store and where? It would be greatly appreciated if someone could offer any help whatsoever in my building process here, its my first v-8 rebuils and just wanna make sure I get it right while its out! Got a stock T400 trans with it that ging in too, using the 231 t-case also. Thanks ahead of time, it would be great if someone could just drop me an e-mail with the info. Thanks, Dickie

I bought the book "How to rebuild your small block chevy". The book was great and told me everything i needed to know as well as the specs. It should help you a lot. The number is HPB-HP1029, $16.95 from summit racing, 1800-230-3030 or summitracing.com. Great book, i would suggest buying it, if all else fails try your local library.

Saw that, and other similar books at Barnes & Noble yesterday.

If you are going to build a stock motor for your Jeep, the easiest (and sometimes least expensive) way is to get either a GM crate motor or a remanufactured motor from a reputable parts store. They work good, and come with a warranty.

If you have a Books-a-Million or similar book store in the area they should have it, i picked up a copy of the same book for abotu 15-18 bucks, been a while back, don't recall exactly.

I have been looking at the chevy 350 for months for my jeep. I thought I was crazy because I have never heard of it. Your thread is the first that I have heard of a jeep owner putting one in besides myself. I want to race my jeep. I am just starting to buy the engine and the thing to hold it on. I was quoted 10,000 to fix it the way I wanted so that is why I will do most of it myself minus the machinist's job.

Hey Dickie and Jeep, Putting a 350 in a jeep has been done numerous times, A buddy of mine is doing a 350 into his willys jeep, THere are many conversion kits for this type of swaps.
Also Dickie if you are going to rebuild it, don't go stock. If you just want a stock 350, go with the reman 350, Most can be picked up for under 1000, I have found one at checkers auto for 695, and they have a 36/100,000 warranty with them if I remeber right. Thats a he** a lot cheaper than trying to rebuild stock.
Just don't give up on this, you will love the new power you will get from the jeep with the swap.

It all depends on what you want to end up with, and how much money you want to spend. I agree with the other guys, if you haven't done an engine yet, build one but don't count on it working. Not to say you aren't capable, but it's better to play mad scientist with out a deadline.
