this may sound stupid but ill ask anyway lol can u use a gear drive timing set with a solid roller cam if so what is the best to go with. what is the best button to use with a solid roller. any combinations you guys can share that you have used for your roller cam and were happy with would be appreciated thanks
i am very happy not using a gear drive with a roller cam i do not recommend it
I'm with Pat...my choice would be a Cloyes double roller chain and gear set. Most everybody makes a button, make sure you get a strong cover or a cast aluminum front cover. The junk import chain covers are super thin and could possibly flex enough to allow a bunch of cam walk.....
yeh, but if you put a big oil pump and magneto in it it won't travel forward unless you spin out the car and go backwards

for a button you can use any thing you like as a builder i have used both alum or the roller button never had any problems with them. for the gear drive your adding harmonics that with a gear drive will reach the valve train
I don't run a gear drive in anything...the quality chain and gears work just fine, as Pat mentioned I see no reason to put all the harmonics into the engine intentionally just to have a whiny blower sound that gets really aggravating after a couple days..... If I would run anything other then a chain and gears it would be a belt and gears....and that would be only in a race only application.
right that makes sense. why would a belt drive just be for race? cost?
yeah, the cost imo would be a bit restrictive plus the performance gain would be so minimal, just wouldn't be worth it. Think you could use the extra 3 bills to pick up a bigger power gain elsewhere....
well they make a wet belt for sbc or did ?

I use Cloyes, never have had a problem with one.
any good true roller cloyes . howards .manley.pro gear billet rollmaster set s it all boils down to a good chain with a .250 pin and go with a torrington thrust or bronze thrust bearing work very good
cool thanks alot for all the advice its very much appreciated. one more thing. running a solid roller i know i need to get a new distributor gear. what determines what kind of gear i should use
