Engine Build w/ a twist!

Hi, New here and there is a ton of info about cars in this place...I am working on a 1985 Corvette and am on a limited budget.

The car is mostly driven on the street. I would like to get involved in SCCA Solo Time Trial racing. Namely, hillclimbs. This is where at least 1 mile of the best part(twisty, switchback turns, steep inclines) of a paved mountain road is closed to traffic and racers go solo against the road and the clock...there are different classes and the best time wins...


I have been given a 350 SBC '010' casting block. It is a bare block. I would like to build a reliable engine that will be fun to drive on these mountain roads and still be competitive at the stoplights with these kids and their Mustangs, 3rd Gen F bodies, and yes, even the Asian car crowds with the kazoos on the back...

This doesn't have to be the fastest car in the world...just something that will move a 3500 lb. car around nicely...remember I am on a budget...I'm not sure how much I can spend as I have to do the build in phases...when I have the cash...I'd like to have the engine done in about 1.5-2 years, as by that time my L98 is going to be getting tired...

I've never built a stroker because I hated messing with the parameters of an engine that made it reliable...I've had them balanced and blueprinted but made power with the fuel system, heads, cam, and exhaust.

Here is the twist:eek:...one of the reasons that I love this car is the TPI system... I still think it is one of the sweetest pieces of eye-candy I've ever seen on any engine...I am in the process of porting the runners and polishing the whole outside of mine and it is looking really good.

It uses a MAF based ECM and can reprogram itself for all but the most radical engine mods...

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
