piston to valve help....

wanted to know if anyone could give me a ball park idea of how much clearance i would have with my combination. i the cam i'd like to put in it is .630 lift minus lash, so about .610 or so net lift, but don't want to buy the cam and clay everything if i don't need to. just thought if anyone has had a similar combo it'd save me the time....plus my block is still getting machined. i have....

.060 small block 400
6cc flat top pistons
zero decked block
.051 head gasket thickness
62cc combustion chambers
2.02/1.6 valves

Is it possible to tell with numbers or does it NEED to be checked cause every combo is different?

yes not to be hard on you do not build engines then you will not have to check any thing .even the small bit that you put on here is not telling much if a race piston like JE etc they will some times put a deeper valve fly cut in .i still have cut them when all thing s should of work. it need checking a hi lift roller cam with a wide lsa and small dur cam cam help

Pat is it possible to check your valve lift clearance without taking ahead off. By finding piston tdc and then remove the valve springs on that cyl and dial gauge the amount of valve travel till it touches the piston. I would think it would not be as accuate but would get someone at least in the ballpark.

you can and i do check piston to valve with the head on block with test springs on it i crank engine thru and check were the piston get close you can use a feeler set or dail gage off the valve retainer
