    Question 305 chevy small block

i have a 1991 rear wheel drive chevy s10 with a 2.8l v8 and a 5spd. i was wondering if a 305 would bolt up to my stock tranny and if it would... would the stock drive train be enough to support the massive power boost from the 2.8 to the 5.0 i dont want to start dropping money into this project unless i know it will work with minimul expense on my end.

Bellhousings are different. It will take a tranny changeout along with exhaust etc. Then driveshaft fabrication and when that's complete, drive it normal. Even a stock 305 can blow out the rear end when pushed.
Any accompanying computer swaps will have to be considered and emission requirements will have to followed for your locale.
Your particular swap will be more pricey than you may want to jump into.

This site is a good resource for engine swaps.

I would not even consider that option. That tranny will leave you walking very quickly. It has a hard enough time handling the 2.8 and a lot of the four bangers.

You've been warned by nitrowarrior not to use the 5-speed behind a V8. Now go ahead and poke the bear with a stick if you're going to be hard-headed about it.

If I were your Pop, I'd take all the toys away from you and make you put your head into some books. Your composition and spelling are atrocious.

I'm typing all of this on my phone, and the auto correct is hell. Now if I wanted to be insulted, I would have spoken to my family about this matter, but seeing how helpful you have all been so very helpful with this matter, I'm just going to figure something out without your help. I was hoping that this would be a good place to seek wisdom but I guess all of you people are pompus jerk-wads, now good day to you sir!

If the knowledge from our experience isn't enough, buy the book from JRT.
Anywhere from 15.00 bucks to 30.00 if you search hard enough.
Back to the tranny, you probably have the NV3500 5 speed. A grenade under all V-8 applications. Who knows maybe you'll get lucky and actually have the NV4500. That thing will handle a little bit of grunt. Unfortunately the NV4500 was found behind the 4.3L 90 degree engines in the S-10s. It was also found in some of the passenger car series. Big problem with those is, it didn't have shift rod stops placed in them from the factory and the shift forks were/are prone to snapping off. So it's doable, it just has it's problems too.
Before you made a boneheaded mistake, we tried to stop the bleeding before you stepped on your own DI** and save you a whole lot of heartache and a lot of walking.
Buy the book, it's more than enough info to satisfy you.

Your rear end is either the 7.5 or 7.625 ring gear. Short period of time before it's resting on the side of the road. The 8.5 S10 rear end was so rare as an option, I seriously doubt you'd find one cheaply. Other 8.5 rear ends can be used with spring perch change overs and getting one that the over all length is close. A lot of blood sweat and tears.
