Alright... im close.. but still not just right!! need help!

alright here it is! again..... 97 sbc with mild cam, some older stock heads with the 76cc chambers, performer air gap intake manifold, and i just switched over to the 600 cfm edelbrock performer carb. i got a 700R4 behind it and then 3:73 rearend. heres the problem... i had a 305 in there before and this engine feels like it gets up and goes the exact same way!??? really frustrated right now! is it possibly something with the transmission? also it actually kinda feels like it pulls harder at 1/4 throttle than it does at wide open! ?? any suggestions and help will be much appreciated! thanks in advance!

What pistons are in it?? The smogger heads with the humongous chambers are killing the compression, hopefully the pistons are flat tops, at least??? Heads and cam are the most important components in the engine, they gotta be able to work together....

Heads. Just curious, what size (Height) tires are you running?

i am running flat tops ... i ordered the pistons before i got the heads. and i ordered about 10.5 to 1 pistons for 64cc chambers. so i figure im at about 9 to 1 now??! is this correct? or close...? i've got 33 by 10 and halfs on there... its a truck ... i can hear a ticking sound.. i was thinking it was just exhaust leakage. but i have undone the y pipe and tightened the crap out of those bolts.. multiple times! still got a ticking?? the cam does have quite a bit lift.. .528 on exhaust and .509 on intake i believe.. i didnt upgrade springs and i haven't done anything special with the lifters. could it be something in that area??

thanks for the links tech! i hadnt ever heard how important that adjustment was until now so thanks for the heads up! ill go give that a try. by the way i like the quote !
