Anyone had a blower on a sbc ? I have a 55 that has been tubbed and is ready for some serious power and I know it's old school to put a 671 or 871 in it but it sure sounds and looks cool but I hear it's not worth the hassels you have to put up with. I use my car for shows (within 100 miles and around town). Yeah I know it's easier to go with a healthy sbc and some nitrous like all my buddys that race but I'm a old fart and like it my way. After all I pay the bills right! Thanks for any input
I like old school. I'd luv to have a blower on the street. Just under drive it.
I've been told every year or so you need to rebuild the blower at $1500 and if you build the motor right with forged btm end and all roller your talking $5,000-9,000 with a $2500 blower I don't want problems.
Are you running a 6-71 or 8-71 or a 140. What pulleys or how much underdrive are you running? I heard the key is good btm end and don't over heat it. I have a heavy car (55 chev) so I need good power maybe 600. I had a 500 horse LT1 in a 57 and it was wicked not tubbed on leaf springs. Now my 55 is tubbed and on 4 lick coni set up so I think I'm ready to see what that will feel like! Thanks
i have had many 671 and 871 blowers on streetcars and have not had problems with them . now if the tuner is not knowledged about them find someone who is ( aka blower drive service) . as a fact the 55 in your av is a car i built about 8 yr ago , it had a 671 blown big block , had many street miles .
blowers are easy to set up , be prepared to spend big money on the best parts , only a msd dist , 6btm box , 2 quality holley style carbs , tuned for a blower , the pistons need to be low compression forged , and good head gaskets or best money spent on o ring the block .
but the power is the best thing, and for visual horsepowerthe blower is the best,

A55NV, everything these guys said is true. I wish I knew what I know now about blowers, ya I know not much , back in the 60s. I've run mine for about 6 years now. I had an accident and wanted to check the blower to make sure nothing was tweeked. I brought it to Littlefield and tolarances were still good. Run good filters and you should be ok. I have a 383 with a 671 and Holleys running 10% underdriven. Pump gas (91) works fine as long as you drive within reason. I used Holley 750s and had a hard time getting them jetted down. I think that 600s would have been better and are plenty of carb. Carbs had to be reworked for blower but it wasn't hard to do. I think you should DO IT. Their fun to drive.:D :D :D
I talked to some guys from Edelbrock at the last good guys in Pleasenton and they said the same thing but to o ring the heads if I use aluminum heads. Are you guys using iron heads? It was just a matter of blowing head gaskets. I've got a real nice Yamaha V star that I need to get rid of to buy this engine. I've got a 300 horse 350 and it just doesn't cut it. ON A SMALL BLOCK I WOULD PUT 600 ON IT , YOU CAN TRADE THE FUEL BOWLS FOR DUAL LINE STYLE FOR A BETTER LOOK . O-RING THE BLOCK , IT IS CHEEP INSURANCE . I HAVE RUN CAST IRON HEADS AND ALLUM. HEADS BOTH . ONE THINK TO REMEMBER ON A BLOWER MOTOR IS HEADS ARE NOT AS BIG OF A DEAL , BECAUSE IN A NORMAL ASPRIATED MOTOR YOU ARE DRAWING AIR THRU THE PORT ON A BLOWER YOU ARE FORCING IT THRU . SPEND THE MONEY ON OTHER THINGS YOU NEED FIRST , GOOD IGNITION, CARBS, ,PISTONS,
Thanks again! I'll try and get it together in time for the next Good Guys cause the always have all the dealers there ( March 28). how about any of the Calif. motor shops? Or brand of blowers to get or stay away from?
