about how much would you pay for replacing rod bolts, resizing the rods, and putting the pistons on the rods?
I wouldn't pay anything
Are your pistons press fit????or full floating???are the rods press fit or full floating???Whose rod bolts did you use???were any rods have spun bearings???
yeah .. a bit of the " why " you are doing these things will help .. pressing on pistons cost me 2 bucks per a few years ago .. resizing rods and changing bolts aren`t usually part of a simple rebuild less you have a spun rod or so ..
well i not sure of the engine's background and yes the pistons are press fit. also, it's not a stock rebuild it's for a race car.
and they're arp bolts
so are the old pistons still on the rods??
we get $3.50 each to remove pressed pin piston
$120 to change bolt and redo big ends and touch up small end including arp stock type bolts/nuts
$40 to install pistons using electric rod heater to expand small end of rod
Total a little under $200
U can buy a set of aftermarket rods pretty reasonable but will need rebalance and also check them for size and seems like they always are too tite on small end
nah the old pistons are off, and i already have the bolts so were you saying 120 plus bolts or 120 with bolts
with bolts---if old pistons are already off(by someone else or questionable methods) we might not even do the job--more stuff comes in that is totally wrecked by someone else ------
they were removed by a professional shop
so itd be like $160 and i bring the rods, bolts, pistons
yep i get 10.00 a rod for the big end . wash then blast then cut caps and rods .press bolts in hone to size .add for bolts i only use SPS or ARP s . small ends on stock rods are touch up there never off that bad like Jerry said the after market have about a 001.3 to much on the pin end.to re hang pistons with oven and check for twist 40.00 so about the same :)
alright so around $150 is appropriate right?
well the pistons are off so if the pins are free and need no tune up it 10.00 to resize the big end and i clean them so thats 80.00 then to re hang the pistons is 40.00 so 120. then add for new ARP bolts if small ends need to be rework then 28.00 so yes 150 is appropriate.. not a big money maker to do right take some time
well i already have the new bolts
