383 build-Something Caught My Eye
I read where Jerry said on a 454 build that a engine at 9.0 compression given the wt of I think it was a truck would be a real"dog".Been yrs since I heard that term and I am saying that much to Jerry's credit showing the yrs of engine building. It was certainly a awake up call to me.I had posted a thread about my 383 build intent and despite Pat's,Jerry's,Dave's and everyone's else best advice insisted I wanted to build a 9.0 383 to the extent I wanted to special order Mahle inverted dome pistons at a little over $700. to run 87 gas for my towing/toy/conversion 1989 Astro van.
So all that said above,It is my way of saying a big I'm very sorry to all of you for not listening.
Later today I have the gun loaded to purchase pistons to get this build on the road so to speak. With Jerry's comment and I looked at the price difference between 87 and 95 gas beening only on average $.13 to $.15 cents convinced me I should look at doing this another way.Lastly this is likely my last build at the age of 64 and surely don't want to disappointed and be stuck with it.
The only two things I am saying is I will not buy anything Eagle and the heads I think I want to use are RHS Pro Action cast iron heads.
The block I have is a L31 four bolt roller.I want to buy today the pistons, rings, pin and would need part numbers and source.I need a set at a compression ratio that I won't have to worry about pinging using 95 gas
With hat in hand guys,
Thanks,

Good Bye
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
