have you tried turning them over AND side to side???
Ok, time to go back to square one ! Your truck had a sbc in it, right? Did it have motor mounts on it ? If so, where are those mounts? If you have them, just compare the old set up to the new set up. This really shouldn't be this hard.

The mounts on the block cannot be upside down because there are two holes up top and one on the bottom. I've tried swapping them side to side.
The mounts on the frame can also only go one way because of the direction the engine sits in the mount. If I installed them upside down, the mounts wouldn't sit on the frame anymore (see earlier picture). Nevertheless, I tried it. I tried swapping sides too.
Tried looking in my LMC catalog, but they only offer one type of engine-side mount
The truck had a SBC 350 in it, and thats what I'm putting back in. Newer one is a 1989, but its still generation 1 small block 350. I don't get it. You're right, this shouldn't be this hard!

OK lets do this again Are the frame mounts the ones orignal to the truck.......Chevy made a differant type mount which dosen't look like what you have... there was a raised part that bolts to the frame and the engine side had the rubber part. If I can find a picture I'll post it.

I do not have the engine-side mounts that came with the truck. I sold them with the 350 I took out of the truck, because they looked identical to the ones I had already. I took the mounts off, held them side by side, and measured alot of them, and everything was the same to the mounts I am using! So... I sold them with the block.
The frame mounts are exactly the same. I have the old ones, I can hold them up to each other, and they are identical.
So, all those other mounts you showed me probably wouldn't work, since the style that truck used to have looks the same as the ones I'm using (the rubber part was on the frame, not the block).
Right now I'm pretty convinced that it's a different bracket on the engine side. Anyone know where I can find brackets? I looked in my LMC catalog, but they only offer one kind.

I was just out in the shop and looked at some spare mounts I have.....There is no way you could put them on wrong... They are made to be fool proof. You may have a bent one???/ Anychance you can get thwe old ones back off your old engine....If not Ebay has them
Are you sure your frame hasn't been tweaked? Were the through bolts easy to pull from the old mounts on the old engine, or was it maybe binding a bit? Your pictures seem to point to the frame rails maybe being a little too close together which would tend to push everything up.
Some of the GM trucks had multi tranny cross member holes for different trannies.If you either swapped the tranny for a different one or have that cross member in the wrong hole,that would effect the engine mounts.
That's what I thought... I couldn't really put them on wrong. I'm going to try to get my old mounts back... spent all morning looking through old phone bills trying to find the guy's numberQuote:

There's a guy down the street (who is also stumped by my issue) who has about 10 4x4 trucks without engines in them, I'll try and go up there today and take some measurements.
The tranny that was in the truck was a TH400, not what I'm putting back in, and not what came with the truck from factory, either. The transmission cross member is not currently installed (it will be once the tranny gets in). Are you referring to the crossmember directly in front of my motor mounts? What I was wondering on the through bolts was with the old engine - when you pulled that engine did your through bolts come out easy once you had the load off of them, or were they binding which might signify something being bent? Not likely, but we're grasping at straws here.
As far as I can remember, they came out very easy. The old mounts were not bent, either, I think I would have noticed. I looked them over fairly well.
Not sure how the trans mount would effect the engine mounts in the way he explains the problem..........If you have access to another truck I'd sure measure it and compare...ONE request when you figure this out post the answer cause there are a lot of us stumped..Quote:
